About the Role
We're looking for a reliable, hardworking Kitchen Steward to join the team at Rydges South Bank, supporting our chefs by keeping the kitchen clean, organised and ready to perform, shift after shift. This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in the details others might overlook and enjoys being a key part of a busy, high-volume kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash and sanitise crockery, cutlery, cookware, and kitchen equipment to a high standard, in line with food safety requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, benches, and equipment throughout and at the end of each shift.
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks and the timely delivery of clean equipment during service.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling in line with hotel and environmental procedures.
- Safely operate dishwashing machines and cleaning equipment, reporting any faults promptly.
- Support the setup and pack-down of kitchen areas for conference, banquet, and restaurant services.
- Monitor and maintain stock of cleaning supplies and kitchen consumables.
- Follow all WH&S, hygiene, and food safety procedures at all times.
What You'll Bring
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward, Kitchen Hand, or similar role is desirable but not essential.
- A strong work ethic and willingness to get stuck into a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, especially during peak service and large events.
- Physical capability to manage the demands of the role, including standing, lifting, and repetitive tasks.
- A team player who communicates well with chefs and fellow kitchen staff.
- Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends around the events calendar.
