The Role
This position fulfils the duties of an Air Traffic Controller line controller, Supervisor and Training officer.
The duties of an EL 1 Air Traffic Controller (ATC) occupation in Defence include the following:
- Performing duties of an Air Traffic Controller as directed.
- Conducting and supervising ATC training including staff briefing and maintaining relevant documentation.
- Motivate ATC trainees and provide guidance in achieving a range of outcomes in a high-pressure environment.
- Conducting ATC Supervisor duties.
- Conducting associated secondary duties as directed.
About our Team
This position works for the Deputy Flight Commander as part of the ATC team. The team provide Air Traffic Services (ATS) to aircraft utilising the Richmond restricted areas. This include local civilian traffic, Australian Defence Force military aircraft, and international military aircraft. A critical service provision is access to parachuting airspace. The team is small and close knit, supporting ATS up to 7 days a week, and up to 15 hours a day.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal Candidate will have prior military air traffic control experience and/or air traffic control experience in the Sydney basin. They will ideally have Tower experience, but this is not mandatory.
An EL 1 Air Traffic Controller will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform subject matter expert role. They will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice.
They will have in-depth knowledge of the air traffic control field and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function.
