Casual Public Speaking & Debating Tutor, Altus Learning (Rouse Hill)
Altus Learning is a small group tutoring business in Rouse Hill delivering Writing, Public Speaking, and Debating courses to Years 1 to 6 students. We're looking for a casual tutor to run some of our Public Speaking and Debating classes.
About the role
- Deliver weekly small group lessons (capped at 12 students) following our structured course booklets
- Debating lessons follow a Five Part structure each week: Quiz, News of the Week, Vocabulary, Skill of the Week, Oral Practice, plus homework marking
- Public Speaking lessons focus on building confidence, structure, and delivery for primary aged students. Also follows a similar 4 Part structure.
- Location: Annangrove Road, Rouse Hill
- Casual hours, flexible around your University schedule
What you'll need
- High calibre competitive debating and/or public speaking experience essential, e.g. state or national level competition (Premier's Debating Challenge, ISDA, CSDA finals, Rostrum Voice of Youth, University level debating, or equivalent)
- Strong command of English and confident public speaking/debating ability
- Comfortable running a room of up to 12 students and managing group dynamics
- Friendly to the students
- Reliable, organised, and able to follow structured lesson materials while still engaging a class
- Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)
Nice to have
- Coaching or judging experience in ISDA, CSDA, or Premier's Debating Challenge formats
- Experience working with or teaching primary aged children (tutoring, coaching, mentoring, or similar)
Pay & Structure
- Casual role, $30/hour
- Onboarding via a simplified working arrangement (not a formal employment contract)
Pay: $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 3.0 – 12.0 per week
