The WHSE and First Aid Officer/Coordinator is responsible for delivering frontline occupational first aid services and day-to-day workplace health, safety and environmental (WHSE) support on the construction site. This coordinator-level role provides first aid response and treatment, conducts site inductions and compliance checks, and supports the WHSE Manager and Site Safety & Environmental Officer in maintaining a safe, compliant and positive safety culture across the site.

Job Description

Provide occupational first aid treatment, including CPR and oxygen therapy, and set up, stock and maintain the first aid room and first aid kits in a compliant, fully-equipped state.
Complete incident and treatment reports for all first aid presentations and follow up on ongoing treatment with injured workers.
Act as a Mental Health First Aider, providing initial support and appropriate referral to employees experiencing mental health concerns.
Remain alert to inconsistencies or irregularities that may indicate a questionable workers' compensation claim, escalating concerns to management in line with company process.
Liaise with the nominated doctor and/or medical centre regarding injured workers as required.
Deliver site inductions to new employees, in Hammertech
Check Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), licences and certifications for currency and accuracy prior to work commencing.
Conduct regular site walkarounds and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) checks, and install and maintain WHS signage as required.
Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to determine first aid requirements aligned to chemicals in use on site, and maintain current SDS records in Hammertech, with hard copies available on site.
Support WHS audits and risk assessments, assisting in the identification of workplace hazards and implementation of risk-control measures.
Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents, hazards and near misses, documenting findings and ensuring corrective actions are tracked to completion.
Maintain WHS registers, records, action plans and other compliance documentation.
Support WHS training, toolbox talks and safety awareness activities across the site.
Monitor contractor WHS compliance where applicable, and support WHS consultation and committee follow-up actions.

Desired Skills and Experience

Current Occupational First Aid certificate (including CPR); oxygen therapy competency required.
Cert IV Occupational Work Health and Safety
Mental Health First Aid accreditation, or willingness to obtain.
Sound working knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice and safe work systems within the construction industry.
Ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and apply findings to first aid and risk-control planning.
Proficiency in safety management and reporting software (e.g. Hammertech, MS Office Suite), or willingness to be trained.
Well organised and methodical, with strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
Clear, confident communicator, comfortable engaging with workers, contractors and management across a live site.
Entry-to-coordinator level WHS or safety experience; construction or industrial site experience desirable.
