Established in August 2019, Bulla Mushrooms (Aust) Pty Ltd (trading as ‘Bulla Park’) is the largest organic mushroom producer in Australia. We pride ourselves on innovation, strict food safety standards, and operational excellence.
We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Manager (ANZSCO 139916) to join our team on a full-time basis (38 hours per week). Reporting to Senior Management, you will oversee and drive all quality assurance, food safety, and compliance frameworks across our mushroom growing, harvesting, packing, and distribution operations.
The salary offered is $80,000 - $85,000 per annum plus superannuation.
[Key Responsibilities & Duties]
: Developing, implementing, and continually improving site-wide Quality Assurance, Organic Certification, and Food Safety Management Systems to guarantee full compliance with HACCP, Freshcare, SQF, HARPS, FSANZ codes, and the Australian Certified Organic (ACO) Organic Standard.
: Monitoring and evaluating all stages of organic mushroom production, including organic substrate formulation, chemical-free pasteurization, growing room environmental controls (CO2, temperature, humidity), harvesting, grading, and post-harvest handling, to ensure products consistently meet organic integrity and grade specifications.
: Conducting and coordinating internal hygiene, biosecurity, pest-exclusion, and cold-chain audits across organic cultivation, packing, and cold-storage facilities to identify compliance risks and enforce corrective measures without non-organic interventions.
: Managing and reviewing comprehensive product testing and environmental monitoring programs, including microbial swabs, organic substrate testing, irrigation water testing, and zero-chemical residue assessments, to verify absolute organic authenticity and food safety.
: Investigating and resolving crop quality deviations, post-harvest defects, and customer non-conformances using root-cause analysis, while driving corrective and preventive action (CAPA) programs aligned with certified organic protocols.
: Leading staff training, maintaining technical QA/organic traceability documentation, and liaising with Australian Certified Organic (ACO) certification bodies, regulatory authorities, suppliers, and customers to support audits and ongoing organic compliance.
[Required Qualifications, Experience & Skills]
: Relevant Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Food Science, Agricultural Science, Quality Management, or related field; OR at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
: Minimum 2 years of proven experience in Quality Assurance or Quality Control within agricultural, horticulture, or fresh produce processing environments (experience in mushroom or fungi production highly regarded).
: Certified HACCP Lead / Auditor and familiarity with Freshcare, SQF, or HARPS standards is preferred.
: Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with thorough knowledge of Australian food safety standards and cold-chain compliance.
