Paediatric Emergency Medicine Trainee positions are available for up to 24 months for the 2027 Clinical Year, commencing from 01 February 2027. Paediatric Emergency Department responsibilities include assessing and managing children in the ambulatory, acute care and resuscitation areas of the Emergency Department.
During the period of work within Paediatric Emergency Department, the Trainee will:
- Provide assessment and care of infants and children presenting to Children’s Emergency Department
- Communicate and collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary teams within and outside the hospital
- Provide referral for appropriate continuity of care for infants and children
- Respond to and be involved in out of department emergencies as required
- Perform procedures under supervision appropriate for level of training
- Build on clinical knowledge and skills in the care of infants and children presenting to Children’s Emergency Department
- Contribute to and be involved in education, quality improvement and research activities as required

Selection Criteria:
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- At least 3 years postgraduate with 24 months Paediatric or Emergency care experience and currently registered with a recognised Australasian College training program.
- Demonstrated competence in paediatric life support with qualification in APLS or equivalent within the last 5 years or a plan to undertake APLS. Please provide details.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the appropriate management of the patient and a commitment to actively contribute to the team. Please provide an example.
- Demonstrated clinical competency in procedures in paediatric environments including venepuncture, intravenous cannulation, and resuscitation. Please provide an example.
- Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment. Please provide an example.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and commitment to College training and willingness to teach medical students, doctors in training and other health professionals. Please provide an example.
- Proven ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks. Please provide an example.
