About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Welder to join our growing steel fabrication team. Working in a workshop environment, you will be responsible for the fabrication, welding, and assembly of structural steel and metal components to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Reading detailed engineering blueprints to understand the exact requirements for complex projects across our mining, rail, defence, and infrastructure sectors.
- Choosing the correct steel grades and thoroughly cleaning materials before fabrication to ensure high-quality results for our diverse engineering clients.
- Accurately cutting heavy steel and metal parts using workshop machinery and cutting torches to build reliable equipment and infrastructure components.
- Bending and shaping metal and pipes in the workshop to create custom components for food machinery, water infrastructure, and rail rolling stock.
- Carefully measuring, clamping, and aligning parts to ensure perfect fitment before final welding in the workshop or installation on-site.
- Performing high-quality welding, bolting, and structural riveting to assemble strong, durable steel structures for heavy engineering projects.
- Inspecting all finished welds closely to guarantee they meet the strict safety and structural standards expected in demanding industries like defence and road infrastructure.
- Cleaning and polishing completed steel products, so they are fully prepared for final delivery, protective coating, or long-term field maintenance.
- Grinding and smoothing weld joints to ensure a clean, professional finish on all newly fabricated machinery and structural steelwork.
- Upholding our 59-year reputation for excellence by strictly following workplace safety procedures and delivering high-quality workmanship during all workshop fabrication and on-site maintenance tasks.
- Supporting the daily operations of our busy engineering facility by assisting the team with general workshop tasks, safely handling materials, and keeping work areas clean and organized.
About You
- Relevant Certificate III or IV plus 2 years relevant experience or 3 years relevant experience in substitute to the relevant qualification
- Highly proficient in multiple welding techniques, such as TIG, MIG, and Stick
- Strong math skills and the ability to read technical blueprints
- Excellent hand-eye coordination to control the welding torch
- Good physical stamina
- Know how to properly set up and maintain their equipment
- Be a quick problem solver who communicates clearly with their team
