Primary objective
The Assistant Director Audience and Engagement is responsible for the strategic development of programs that support
community access and engagement with the documentary history of the Northern Territory, including operational
responsibility for the Library and Archives NT Darwin City site. The role requires the development and maintenance of strong
relationships with stakeholders both within and external to NT Government.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide strategic advice on the development of community access and engagement and visitor experience, across all
Library and Archives NT (LANT) sites and online.
2. Lead and manage teams responsible for the delivery of community access and engagement and visitor experience,
including marketing, events, exhibitions and communications, building a strong customer focused culture.
3. Lead the planning and development of programs and projects outlined in the organisation’s strategic and business plans.
4. Empower staff commitment to ongoing professional learning and development, and build a team culture which is
collaborative, client focused and committed to service improvement.
5. Develop strong relationships and strategic partnerships with key stakeholders to ensure that services provided meet
NTG requirements.
6. Manage budget and ensure that effective reporting and evaluation processes are in place.
7. Participate in the strategic management and planning of LANT as part of the Leadership Team.
8. Represent Library and Archives NT as required in a range of Territory and national forums, working groups and
organisations.
9. Supervise operational management of the LANT CDU Danala Campus site in Darwin City, including collection
preservation, pest management and facilities repair and maintenance.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive professional experience in leading community engagement and/or visitor experience programs in a cultural
institution context.
2. Demonstrated capacity to think strategically, with a proven ability to develop effective internal and external
relationships.
3. Demonstrated ability to lead, empower and inspire professional teams to achieve objectives, and manage change.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage external stakeholder relationships and partnership development.
5. High-level oral and written communication skills.
6. Demonstrated project management skills, with the capacity to see projects through to completion, on time and within
budget.
7. An ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of cultures and lifestyles.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in community engagement or related cultural field.
2. A sound knowledge of Northern Territory and Australian history.
