As a Vocational Support Officer, you will provide on the job instruction, accredited training, and supervision to prisoners to support their rehabilitative journey.
Eligibility
Permanent positions – To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
VSO Advertising - To be eligible for positions level 3 and above, you must have a relevant qualification. Nationally recognised Australian qualifications, as well as overseas qualifications that have been officially verified for equivalency in Australia, will be accepted. Applicants with overseas qualifications or older Australian qualifications must provide an academic transcript detailing the units or modules completed within the qualification.
Cabinet Shop Instructor and Cabinet Shop Supervisor -
- Certificate III in Cabinet Making and/or
- Certificate III in Furniture Making
- Construction Industry White Card
Construction Maintenance Instructor and Construction Maintenance Supervisor -
- Certificate III in a construction trade eg Brick and Block Laying, Carpentry and Joinery and/or
- Certificate III in Building and Construction and/or
- Certificate III in Building Maintenance and/or
- Certificate III in Appliance Service
- Construction Industry White Card
Industrial Relief Instructor –
- Certificate III – Please refer to the relevant industry or service area for the qualification requirements
Paint Shop Instructor
- Certificate III in Painting and Decorating
Vocational Skills Instructor
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment and/or
- The requirement to attain within 9 months and
- Construction trade certificate at Certificate III level and
- Construction Industry White Card
Please note the following additional pre-appointment requirements to comply with the Prisons Act 1981, Prison Regulations 1982, and applicable Departmental policy and procedures.
A successful applicant must:
- Receive a clearance through a National Criminal History check and the Departmental integrity assessment;
- Provide evidence of the relevant Qualification/Academic Record (if applicable);
- Possess a current Australian ‘C’ class motor vehicle driver’s licence or equivalent. Restrictions such as learner's permits, P plates or extraordinary licences are not eligible;
- Possess a valid Senior First Aid qualification (or equivalent) received from an accredited training provider; and
- Be willing to undertake the mandatory four-week Essential Training Program at the Department’s Training Academy, Bentley, WA.
