Position Overview
The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) plays a vital role in supporting residents with daily living needs, promoting wellbeing, and maintaining a safe, respectful environment. This role is ideal for someone who understands culture and can communicate effectively with residents who speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person‑centred care to older residents in accordance with individual care plans.
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including:
- Personal hygiene and grooming
- Showering and toileting
- Dressing
- Mobility and transfers
- Eating and drinking
- Support residents with social engagement, emotional wellbeing, and culturally meaningful activities.
- Observe, report, and document changes in residents’ health or behaviour to the Registered Nurse.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents.
- Follow all infection‑control, manual‑handling, and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high‑quality care.
- Respect and uphold residents’ cultural values, privacy, dignity, and rights at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or equivalent.
- Current police check (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid working rights in Australia.
- Ability to work various shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Genuine interest in caring for older people.
Highly Desirable
- Ability to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin to support communication with residents.
- Understanding of Chinese cultural practices, traditions, and family dynamics.
- Experience working in residential aged care.
- Australian Permanent Residency or Citizenship, to support long‑term workforce stability and continuity of care.
