SS Disability Care is seeking an experienced and compassionate Disability Support Worker to provide ongoing support to a young participant with complex needs.
This rewarding role involves supporting a 6-year-old child to attend regular therapy appointments using our company wheelchair-accessible van. You will work closely with the participant and her family to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
About the Participant
The participant has complex and significant support needs arising from:
- Quadriplegic cerebral palsy
- Severe acquired brain injury
- Vision impairment
- Developmental delay
- Epilepsy
- Dysphagia
- Profound physical disability
She requires extensive assistance with activities of daily living, uses a communication device, relies on mobility aids, and requires specialised transport for regular medical appointments.
Ongoing Shifts
- Speech Therapy: Coomera – Tuesdays at 2:00 pm (fortnightly)
- Hydrotherapy: Pimpama Sports Hub – Wednesdays at 1:30 pm or 3:00 pm (alternating weekly)
- Physiotherapy: Ashmore – Thursdays at 8:00 am (weekly)
Additional shifts may become available for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport the participant safely using the company wheelchair-accessible van
- Provide person-centred support during community access and appointments
- Assist with mobility equipment and manual handling tasks
- Support communication using assistive technology
- Maintain accurate shift notes and documentation
- Build a positive and professional relationship with the participant and family
Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting children or individuals with complex disabilities
- Current Australian driver's licence and a confident driving record
- Ability to drive a wheelchair-accessible vehicle
- Experience with manual handling and mobility equipment
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
- Current National Police Check
- Full working rights in Australia
Desirable Skills
- Experience supporting participants with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, dysphagia, or acquired brain injury
- Knowledge of communication devices and assistive technology
- Experience working in paediatric disability support
