The Role
As a Student Planning Officer, you’ll work alongside some of the country’s most experienced planners to support the delivery of planning projects, policies, and strategies that shape local and regional communities. Being a part of an innovative, challenging yet rewarding team, you’ll contribute to meaningful work such as preparing and reviewing local environmental plans, supporting development assessments, and participating in site inspections and fieldwork.
In this hands-on role, you’ll also engage with stakeholders, respond to enquiries, and assist with research and analysis to inform planning outcomes. This is a unique opportunity to apply your studies in a real-world setting while building your professional skills in a dynamic and purpose-driven environment.

What you will bring to the role
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to clearly present ideas and work collaboratively with others
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities in a team environment
- Teamwork and collaboration skills, with a willingness to contribute to group efforts
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to support planning outcomes and decision-making
To be eligible for this role, students must:
- be completing a Planning Degree at university (3rd year or equivalent)
- hold a good academic record
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- hold a Class C Driver's Licence as regional travel may be required at times (fleet car provided)
