RSPCA NSW is seeking an experienced prosecutor or criminal lawyer with strong courtroom advocacy experience to join our Legal team and support the delivery of our prosecution practice.
About the organisation:
RSPCA NSW is a not-for-profit animal welfare organisation with a statutory role enforcing animal cruelty legislation across NSW. Its legal and inspectorate teams work together to investigate and prosecute offences under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 (NSW).
About the role:
The Senior Legal Officer supports the prosecutions function and works closely with the inspectorate.
Key responsibilities include:

Reviewing prosecution briefs prepared by inspectors.

Appearing as an advocate in the Local and District Courts, including regional courts.

Preparing and conferencing witnesses.

Liaising with police prosecutors, external solicitors and counsel.

Drafting court documents, affidavits and applications.

Maintaining prosecutions records and files.

Providing training to staff on prosecution processes and legislation.
About you:
We welcome applications from experienced prosecutors, police prosecutors, criminal defence lawyers, regulatory lawyers and criminal lawyers with strong advocacy and court experience. You will demonstrate expertise in applying legal principles, drafting documents, providing advice and acting as a court advocate with confidence and professionalism.
You will bring:

Tertiary qualifications in law.

A current practising certificate or the ability to obtain one immediately.

An unrestricted driver’s licence.
