Primary objective
Develop and coordinate project and program initiatives designed to protect and promote health and wellbeing across the
prevention continuum, particularly within Northern Territory population groups who are at higher risks of developing chronic
conditions.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high quality comprehensive information, policy analysis and program development advice on health promotion and
prevention, consistent with Northern Territory (NT) and National frameworks.
2. Develop and implement policy, programs and systems that promote evidence based, best practice prevention action across
the NT.
3. Prepare, contribute to and review reports and complex correspondence including ministerial and executive briefings.
4. Develop and maintain effective partnerships and strategic alliances with key stakeholders to develop, promote and facilitate
the integration of innovative and sustainable prevention action across the NT.
5. Undertake other projects and initiatives as directed.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through flexibility, exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the provision of quality, comprehensive information, policy analysis, and program
and project management in a health system context.
2. Highly developed understanding of the contributing factors to Aboriginal health outcomes.
3. Highly developed knowledge and understanding of preventive health, social determinants of health, health equity and cultural
issues that influence health outcomes in the Northern Territory.
4. Highly developed oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated knowledge of government processes, the
preparation of Ministerial and executive briefings, and the ability to present and provide advice on complex issues.
5. An ability to build and maintain effective collaborative partnerships with government agencies and other key non-government
stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively within a team, managing own performance, prioritising work effectively,
executing tasks and meeting critical deadlines.
Desirable
1. Bachelor/Post Graduate qualification in Health Promotion, Public Health, or a related discipline.
2. Knowledge of the NT health system.
