The Opportunity
We are looking for an energetic, passionate, Data Centre (DC) Operator to work out of our Data Centres in Sydney. You will be responsible for the delivery of the full customer experience from the day-to-day operation, emergency response and client service delivery within the facilities.
What you will do
Critical facilities Management
- Providing exceptional customer service including timely communication to clients regarding facility operational matters, remote hands, remote support and facility related support.
- Processing of customer request tickets.
- Monitoring facility infrastructure, access control and security
- Providing remote assistance to other Vocus Data Centres.
- Responding to facilities issues as they arise.
- Liaising with Telco’s and vendors to deliver cable and infrastructure deployments.
- Performing cross connect installs and connections.
- Assisting in ensuring regular maintenance activities with contractors are completed successfully.
- Availability for 24/7 on-call rotation roster for emergency response where required.
- Facilitating tours of the facility for potential and existing customers.
- Assisting in signing customers into and out of the site.
- Implementing and maintaining DC documentation and records.
- Operational checks and inspection of plant and equipment.
- Assisting other Vocus staff such as networking and provisioning teams.
- Assisting in the creation of regular reporting and site documentation.
- Assisting in maintaining the functionality and tidiness of the comms room and ODF infrastructure.
- Assist in site projects as required.
- Flexibility in operating out of any of the technical facilities, as required.
- Take proactive approach towards task and project execution.
- Raise any issue discovered.
- Assist in organizing maintenance agreements / proposals as required.
- Raising Purchase orders and processing as required.
- Performing remote hands tasks, for customers as required.
- Assist in Facility and customer infrastructure assets as required.
- Assisting in receiving and managing delivery and logistics activities.
- Assist in site order and cleanliness activities.
- Communicate and assist other Vocus teams as required.
- Adhere to both Vocus and local DC procedure and policies.
- Perform regular onsite WHS audits and assessments.
- Attend and complete training as required.
Project Delivery
- Work with technical designs, specifications, and scopes of work for integration and upgrade projects.
- Manage projects from concept through to implementation, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines and budgets.
- Oversee vendor selection, procurement, and contractor management for system upgrades and integrations.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Identify opportunities to enhance system performance, security, and user experience through emerging technologies and best practices.
- Recommend and implement improvements to data centre monitoring, access controls, and security frameworks to support business objectives.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all designs, systems, and integration activities comply with relevant legislation, standards, and Vocus policies.
- Conduct technical risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of critical services during integration projects.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including Data Centre Operations, Security, IT, and Project Management, to ensure alignment of technical solutions with operational needs.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering and operational staff involved in integration projects.
- Act as the subject matter expert representing Technical Facilities in stakeholder discussions, vendor negotiations, and customer engagements.
What you’ll bring
- Solid understanding of data communications services and systems
- Knowledge of electrical/mechanical systems and principles
- Proficient in your understanding of Network Protocols - TCP/IP, Ethernet etc....
- Network installation and configuration knowledge
- Knowledge of network hardware - switches, routers and cabling
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Keen interest in technology
- Willingness to learn, grow and develop

- A full valid C Class Driver’s License is required for this role
- Previous Data Centre operations experience highly regarded
- Trade background - Highly regarded
- Experience as a service technician in building / facilities management environments, advantageous
- An understanding of data communications services and systems.
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge of industry IT compliance standards, particularly in ISO27001.
- Knowledge of information security principles and best practices such as ISO 27001 and experience in managing Data Centre security risk
- Understanding of IT security controls
- Experience in information Security Incident Response/Investigations
