Take ownership of vital infrastructure by driving the management and optimisation of Council’s asset systems across roads and stormwater, ensuring data accuracy from collection through to reporting. Lead the continuous improvement of systems and processes to deliver high-quality, reliable asset data that supports smarter decision-making and long-term community outcomes.
This role supports the Asset & Maintenance Engineers in managing Council’s road, drainage, and bridge assets, including collecting field data and updating records. It involves working with contractors, staff, and other stakeholders, while ensuring safety procedures are followed. The role also helps improve asset management systems and provides training to maintenance teams.
- Manage Council’s asset management systems for roads, footpaths, stormwater drainage and bridges, supporting a combined asset portfolio valued at approximately $1.35 billion, including regular field data collection.
- Liaise with consultants, contractors and internal teams, providing accurate asset information and updates on new works and donated infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety Act 2011 requirements, prioritising the safety of staff, contractors and the wider community.
- Deliver guidance, communication and training to road maintenance staff on the effective use and ongoing management of asset systems.
- Drive continuous improvement of asset data systems and processes, optimising performance within existing corporate IT and financial frameworks (with major changes endorsed by management).

- Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, with a strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Proven experience using asset management systems and capturing spatial data for infrastructure assets.
- Strong analytical skills, including experience in report writing, data retrieval and interpreting asset information.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Highly organised with strong time management, advanced computer skills (including Microsoft Office), and the ability to accurately read and interpret engineering and construction plans.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
