About the role:
We are looking for our next Account Director or Senior Account Director to join the Herd team. You’ll work across global and domestic brands looking to communicate with both B2C, B2B, and government audiences.
This role is ideal for someone who is as comfortable advising senior clients through policy change, regulatory scrutiny or public debate as they are delivering top class earned media, issues management and integrated communications programs.
Client leadership & counsel
Act as senior strategic counsel across key accounts, with ownership for quality, outcomes and relationships.
Provide assured counsel to senior customers navigating regulatory, policy, government or reputational intricacy.
Translate intricate technical or policy issues into clear, compelling narratives for media, stakeholders and the public.
Drive issues management, proactive reputation programs and reactive communications when required.
Strategy & delivery
Strategic thinking combined with strategic implementation.
Shape earned‑led communications strategies that cut through.
Oversee your team’s delivery of media relations programs.
Develop messaging, narratives and positioning that balance brand, regulation and public interest.
Ensure campaigns are delivered on time, on budget and to Herd MSL’s quality standards.
Team & agency leadership
Guide, coach and develop account teams, assisting growth, confidence and accountability.
Play a hands‑on role in mentoring team members.
Assist new business, credentials and thought leadership where appropriate.

In terms of skills and experience:
Proven experience to deliver at Account Director level in PR or communications.
Demonstrated experience handling regulatory, policy, government or issues‑rich environments. Deep knowledge of the Australian media and policy landscape.
Fearless senior stakeholder counsel.
Excellent media relations experience, including business, tech and national media. Strong writing and narrative know-how and are able to simplify convolution without losing nuance.
Sound commercial and financial management of accounts.
You possess a calm, solutions‑focused stewardship style under pressure.
You are curious, proactive and comfortable with ambiguity.
You are a collaborative innovator who brings others along.
