About the role
Are you a passionate, pulse-on-the-zeitgeist editorial leader who knows exactly what Australian women are talking about? We are looking for a Commissioning Editor to join our team for a 12-month parental leave cover to lead Mamamia's contributor strategy, unearth exciting new talent, and shape compelling written content that connects with our audience of millions. Working directly with our Editor in Chief, you will lead our submission pipeline, commission high-impact stories, and mentor a talented team-all while delivering engaging, high-quality, and subscriber-exclusive content that drives meaningful conversation and supports our mission to make the world a better place for women and girls.
Here's some of the stuff you can expect to be doing if you join us:

Drive Mamamia's contributor strategy by tapping into social trends, media, and current events to commission stories Australian women care about.

Source, commission, and edit high-quality content from freelance writers, new talent, book extracts, and contributor submissions across key content verticals.

Create and deliver compelling, high-performing subscriber-exclusive written content and collaborate with the No Filter team on site exclusives.

Edit and publish stories with punchy, on-brand headlines and social sells that maximize shareability, engagement, and reach.

Lead, mentor, and empower two direct reports, providing continuous feedback and development for both in-house and freelance writers.

Manage and inspire the news and features pitch meeting, generating and prioritizing fresh, brilliant story ideas across the team.

Analyse audience performance data and traffic insights to continuously adapt content strategy and meet subscriber and page-view growth targets.

Ensure all commissioned content adheres strictly to media law, ethical considerations, brand voice, and high editorial standards.
Now, a bit about you

A seasoned media professional with a tertiary qualification in Journalism/Communications (or similar) and a minimum of 5 years of editing experience.

An experienced manager with a proven track record of leading, mentoring, and inspiring high-performing editorial teams.

Highly skilled in media law, ethical journalism, and protecting brand integrity across digital publishing platforms

A natural trend-spotter and creative thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment and meets deadlines under pressure

Data-literate and confident using digital platforms, content workflows, and audience insights to inform smart editorial decisions.

An exceptional communicator with stellar copy-editing skills, razor-sharp attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit.
