About the role
We are seeking a talented and passionate Cook interested in Indian cuisine to join our team at Albany's Indian Tandoori Restaurant in Albany WA 6330 . As a full-time Cook, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional Indian cuisine to our customers and contributing to the overall success of our restaurant.
What you'll be doing
- Prepare and cook a broad range of authentic Indian dishes including curries biryanis, tandoor-cooked meats, breads and rice dishes
- Operate and maintain a tandoor oven safely, including the preparation and cooking of tandoori meats, seafood, and breads to order
- Prepare and blend spice mixes, masalas, marinades, and curry bases from scratch using whole and ground spices in accordance with authentic regional recipes
- Cook and finish dishes using traditional Indian cooking techniques and deep-frying
- Prepare dishes in line with customer dietary requirements and menu specifications
- Plan and contribute to menu development as directed by the Head Chef
- Estimate and order food supplies including fresh produce, spices, dairy, and specialty Indian ingredients, ensuring adequate stock levels and minimising wastage
- Ensure all food is prepared and presented to established recipe standards, portion sizes, and plating guidelines
- Monitor food quality during preparation and cooking, adjusting seasoning, heat, and timing to maintain consistency across service periods
- Ensure all food preparation and storage complies with food safety legislation, HACCP principles, and relevant state health regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the workstation, kitchen equipment, and cooking utensils throughout and after each service
- Assist in the induction and on-the-job training of kitchen assistants and apprentices as directed
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service, accommodate dietary requirements, and respond to customer requests regarding spice levels and allergens
What we're looking for
Significant experience as a Cook in the Hospitality & Tourism industry.
A strong understanding of Indian cuisine and the ability to create authentic, flavourful dishes
Excellent time management and multitasking skills
Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to food safety and quality
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and under pressure
Passion for the culinary arts and a desire to continuously learn and improve
Qualifications:
Certificate IV in commercial cookery or equivalent.
Food safety supervisor certificate.
Experience :
minimum 2 - year experience required in this role
