Cloud Engineer — Job Description
Summary
Designs, builds, and operates cloud infrastructure and platforms to enable scalable, secure, and cost‑effective application delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure (IaaS/PaaS) using best practices for availability, security, and cost.
- Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
- Build and operate CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments; automate release workflows.
- Manage containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and platform services (EKS/GKE/AKS).
- Implement networking, VPCs, load balancers, DNS, and connectivity (VPN, Direct Connect) architectures.
- Configure identity, authentication, and authorization (IAM, RBAC, SSO) and enforce least‑privilege access.
- Implement cloud security controls: encryption, key management, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and compliance monitoring.
- Monitor infrastructure health and performance; implement logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch).
- Optimize cloud costs through rightsizing, reserved instances/savings plans, and lifecycle policies.
- Troubleshoot production incidents, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement remediation and runbooks.
- Migrate on‑premises workloads to the cloud and modernize legacy systems to cloud‑native patterns.
- Collaborate with developers, SRE, security, and product teams to define SLAs, SLOs, and operational playbooks.
- Evaluate and pilot new cloud services and managed offerings to improve platform capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years experience operating cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Hands‑on experience with IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi).
- Strong knowledge of container platforms and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) and automated deployments.
- Solid understanding of networking, security, and identity concepts in the cloud.
- Proficiency with monitoring and logging stacks and incident response practices.
- Scripting skills (Python, Bash, Go) and familiarity with Linux system administration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect).
- Experience with service meshes, serverless platforms, and hybrid/multi‑cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with policy-as-code and governance tools (OPA, Sentinel).
- Experience with observability platforms, chaos engineering, and cost‑management tools.
- Background in platform engineering, developer self‑service portals, or building internal developer platforms.

Pay: $67.43 – $98.77 per hour
