The Role
As a Mid Level Programmer, you will develop gameplay features and systems for a live mobile game using Unity and C#.
You will take ownership of assigned features from initial implementation through to release, making sure they are reliable, polished, maintainable, and suited to the needs of players.
Working closely with designers, artists, backend engineers, and production teams, you will translate ideas into practical gameplay solutions. You will create flexible systems that allow content teams to test, adjust, and release new experiences efficiently.
This role is onsite in Auckland, NZ. This role does not include Visa support. It does support relocation from within Australia or NZ.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and maintaining gameplay features and systems in Unity and C#
- Taking ownership of features through development, testing, optimisation, and release
- Writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code
- Working within existing architecture and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Creating tools and systems that support designers and content teams
- Debugging gameplay issues and investigating performance problems
- Considering memory usage, allocations, and mobile performance throughout development
- Working across systems such as UI, animation, economy, networking, and persistence
- Collaborating with technical and non technical team members
- Sharing knowledge and contributing to strong engineering practices
Key Skills & Traits
Essential
- Professional game development experience
- Strong Unity and C# foundations
- Experience developing and shipping gameplay features in a production environment
- Understanding of software architecture and maintainable coding practices
- Experience debugging, profiling, and optimising features
- Knowledge of mobile performance considerations
- Ability to independently manage assigned features and responsibilities
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style
- A proactive and practical approach to solving technical problems
- Existing NZ work rights
Desirable
- Experience developing free to play mobile games
- Understanding of live service development and post launch content
- Experience with networking, economy, persistence, UI, animation, or content pipelines
- Knowledge of Unity Addressables, asset management, or object pooling
- Experience mentoring other programmers or contributing to technical improvements
- Console or multiplatform game development experience
