Primary objective
As a member of the school leadership team, the Business Manager provides strategic and operational leadership, advice and
management support in the areas of finance, procurement, administration, infrastructure and human resource including
management of administration and maintenance staff in a government primary school environment.
Context statement
Wanguri Primary School is an urban primary school from Preschool to Year 6 in the northern suburbs of Darwin with a multicultural
school population of approx. 400-410 students. The school promotes high expectations for all students through a safe learning
environment. The Business Manager plays a key role in working with the Principal and leadership team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare and manage with Principal an Annual budget in line with the school Annual Improvement Plan and School Finance
Governance guidelines for ratification by the School Council.
2. Provide leadership and overall supervision of the administration (front office) and maintenance staff to ensure effective
provision of administration, infrastructure maintenance, procurement and overall safety are maintained.
3. Ensure the School Council responsibilities as an employer are met in line with Award conditions, including processing of complex
payroll, associated statutory liabilities and audit obligations.
4. Provide timely reports and advice to the Leadership team and the School Council to ensure the provision of procurement,
administrative, infrastructure, budgets and financial management are met.
5. Oversee Mimik’ga Centre (Early Intervention Learning Hub targeted program) budget and financial management in liaison with
Mimik’ga Administration and Office Manager.
6. Implement and ensure an ongoing program of continuous improvement for corporate support systems and processes, including
proactive data collection, analysis and performance monitoring.
7. Liaise and negotiate with external service providers to coordinate capital and minor new works, essential services, and overall
safety of the school are met and maintained.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience leading an effective business program delivery in the following areas: procurement, administration,
management of financial and human resources, infrastructure and asset management.
2. Demonstrated experience in management and leadership of a service delivery team including to lead change, resolve conflict,
install adaptability, flexibility and resilience whilst maintaining a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
3. Demonstrated experience in management of financial accounting systems such as Ci Anywhere or similar, and relative financial
functions to ensure both legislative and policy compliance including the end of year Audit requirements are met.
4. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication and interpersonal skills including ability to build and maintain effective
networks and collaborative partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
5. Demonstrated experience processing and reporting using complex payrolls and superannuation liabilities.
6. Demonstrated experience in the use of software such as CiAnywhere, Boxi, SRM Management System, Passtab, MS Office
programs and other relative data base software programs.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as Accounting or Business
