About Us
EPEC Group is a nationally recognised high-voltage engineering and EPC partner, providing HV power engineering, EPC (for substations, lines and BESS BoP), testing and compliance services, along with market modelling, SCADA and Hardware-in-the-Loop capability.
Since being founded in 2019, EPEC has grown rapidly to become a trusted delivery partner on some of Australia’s most complex renewable energy projects, from 400MW solar farms and 200MW battery storage systems to 132kV substations delivered for international developers entering the Australian market for the first time. Founded by specialists in power system engineering, project delivery and generator compliance, our mission is to simplify the grid connection process and remove the uncertainty that costs projects time and money.
We manage connections to the national electricity market through end-to-end solutions, from pre-enquiry through to connection, registration, testing, compliance and commercial operations. What sets EPEC apart is that everything is delivered in-house: power system modelling, EPC construction, SCADA, commissioning and compliance testing, all under one roof and one point of accountability.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Secondary Design Engineer to independently develop, review and deliver complete high-voltage substation secondary design packages using EPLAN Electric P8 and MicroStation. This role provides hands-on technical expertise across protection, control, metering, communications and SCADA interfaces, from concept and preliminary design through to IFC, construction support and as-built handover.
Day to day you will prepare and check protection and control schematics, AC and DC schematics, CT and VT circuits, panel layouts, wiring and termination diagrams, cable and core schedules, and I/O schedules. You will select and apply protection relays and associated secondary equipment, and coordinate technical interfaces with primary, civil, SCADA, commissioning, construction, vendors and external design houses.
The role also supports protection engineering activities and provides technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and designers, helping to build capability and consistency across the secondary design team as our client base grows.
About You
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification
- 6+ years of relevant experience in high-voltage substation secondary design and engineering
- Demonstrated hands-on proficiency in independently producing detailed substation secondary design drawings using EPLAN Electric P8 and MicroStation
- Demonstrated ability to develop complete secondary design packages from primary/protection single-line diagrams through to IFC and as-built issue, with minimal supervision
- Experience in protection and control systems, relay application, secondary equipment interfaces and associated engineering documentation
- Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, utility requirements and industry practices
- RPEQ, CPEng or equivalent professional registration (or eligibility to obtain) will be looked upon favourably
