About the role
Latrobe Regional Health is seeking a Infant, Child & Youth Clinician – Regional Intake to join our Community Mental Health Team a full-time ongoing basis. As a key member of the Regional Intake Team, you will provide timely mental health assessments, triage, crisis response, consultation, and brief therapeutic interventions for infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will play a critical role in ensuring children and young people receive the right care, at the right time, through a responsive and evidence-based intake service.

The role of the Infant, Child & Youth Clinician – Regional Intake is to:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health intake, triage, crisis, and risk assessments via telephone, face-to-face, and community-based settings, including emergency departments where required.
- Provide specialist mental health consultation, advice, and brief therapeutic interventions to children, young people, families, carers, and referring professionals.
- Coordinate referrals and facilitate access to the most appropriate services, ensuring decisions align with clinical guidelines, service eligibility criteria, and legislative requirements.
- Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with health services, schools, GPs, community agencies, and other key stakeholders to support integrated care and positive consumer outcomes.
- Contribute to clinical leadership through mentoring, support of less experienced staff, participation in supervision, service development, and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, data collection, and reporting to support service performance measures, governance requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
Ideal candidates for this role will have:
- Qualified and registered Mental Health professional, including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or Speech Pathology, with relevant professional registration and/or membership eligibility.
- Demonstrated experience in child and youth mental health, including assessment, crisis intervention, risk assessment, and therapeutic engagement with young people and families.
- Strong understanding of infant, child, and adolescent development and contemporary evidence-based mental health practice.
- Sound knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, family violence information-sharing schemes, child safety frameworks, and risk management principles.
- Excellent communication, consultation, and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and community service networks.
- Highly organised, adaptable, and committed to delivering person-centred, family-inclusive, culturally safe, and recovery-oriented care.
