As Senior Grounds Officer, you will help keep Kalyra’s Neighbourhood Living communities safe, welcoming and beautifully maintained.
About the Role
Kalyra is a trusted, values-driven organisation dedicated to supporting older Australians to live fulfilling, independent lives within their communities. You will be an experienced and practical Senior Grounds Officer and help maintain the gardens, grounds and facilities across our Neighbourhood Living communities.
This hands-on role is responsible for providing attractive, comfortable and safe environments for our residents, staff and visitors. You will deliver gardening and grounds services while also undertaking regular, corrective and preventative maintenance of buildings, plant and equipment.
Participation in the Kalyra Maintenance Service out of hours roster is a requirement of the role (approximately four times per year).
This is a permanent full-time position based from Kalyra Neighbourhood Living’s Belair office, working across our Neighbourhood Living sites. Key Responsibilities
As a valued member of our Kalyra Neighbourhood Living team, as Senior Grounds Officer reporting to the Building Works Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering gardening and grounds services across multiple locations.
- Maintaining gardens, lawns and outdoor areas to a high standard.
- Undertaking routine, preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Safely operating gardening machinery, equipment and maintenance tools.
- Managing plants, pests and chemicals in accordance with relevant requirements.
- Planning and prioritising work within established budgets and timeframes.
- Identifying maintenance issues and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Completing required reports and administrative tasks.
- Promoting safe work practices and immediately stopping and reporting any unsafe activity.
- Providing practical direction to staff involved in grounds and maintenance activities.
- Participating in Kalyra’s out-of-hours Maintenance Service.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
We’re looking for someone who brings:
- Experience providing gardening and grounds services, preferably across multiple locations.
- Sound knowledge of plants, pest management and chemical handling.
- The ability to safely operate gardening machinery and maintenance equipment.
- A practical approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- The ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with older people.
- Good organisational skills, flexibility and the ability to meet agreed timeframes.
- An understanding of continuous improvement practices.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Working knowledge of work health and safety legislation and its practical application.
Qualifications
Essential requirements
- Current driver’s licence.
- Current National Police Certificate, or willingness to complete the required criminal history screening.
- A Certificate II or III in Horticulture is desirable.
