Typical Job Description
Position: Tyre Fitter / Tyre Technician
Key Responsibilities
- Remove and replace worn or damaged tyres.
- Fit new tyres to vehicle wheels using specialised equipment.
- Balance wheels and align tyres where required.
- Repair punctures and minor tyre damage.
- Inspect tyres for wear, damage, and safety issues.
- Check and adjust tyre pressures.
- Rotate tyres as part of vehicle maintenance programs.
- Maintain workshop tools and equipment.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures.
- Provide customer service and explain tyre recommendations.
Skills and Requirements
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to use tyre-changing and wheel-balancing machinery.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy tyres.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's licence (often preferred or required).
- Previous tyre fitting or automotive experience is advantageous but not always necessary.
Working Conditions
- Work is usually performed in tyre shops, automotive workshops, dealerships, or mobile tyre service vehicles.
- May involve standing for long periods and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Some employers require weekend, after-hours, or roadside assistance work.
Pay: $60,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
