About the role
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Cook to join our dedicated team at City of Liverpool Meals on Wheels in Liverpool, NSW. This casual role (Monday to Friday, 25 hours per week) offers the opportunity to transition to a permanent part-time position for the right candidate. Working alongside our Head Chef, you will assist in preparing and serving high-quality, nutritious meals for our aged and vulnerable community. You will play an important role in supporting our mission to provide delicious, affordable meals while making a positive difference in the lives of those who rely on our services.
What you'll be doing
- Assist our Head Chef with the preparation and cooking of nutritious meals that support the health and wellbeing of older community members, following our daily menu plan
- Support the serving and dishing up of meals with care and attention to detail following strict guidelines and consistent portion control
- Assist with packing meals ready for distribution to both clients and bulk orders to other Meals on Wheels services
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming kitchen environment
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards to ensure meals are safe, high quality, and suitable for aged care clients
What we're looking for
- Previous experience as an Assistant Cook or in a similar food preparation role within a commercial kitchen
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Enthusiasm for providing high-quality meals and exceptional customer service
- Relevant food handling certificates or qualifications
- Reliable, efficient, and enthusiastic, with a strong work ethic and a passion for supporting seniors’ wellbeing
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Food Safety Certificate
- Knowledge of nutritional issues and catering to the aged care community

Successful candidate will need to be prepared to undergo a NSW Police check for working with vulnerable persons and must have received the Covid vaccinations.
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Hospitality Industry General Award - Level 3, Cook Grade 2, working a 25 hour week with a 5.00am start (early start, early finish)
