Seeking a Head Chef for Live on Long Term Position on Rottnest Island - This is a Shared Role with our Existing Head Chef to Account for Extremely Busy Summers and Staggered Annual Leave During our Off Peak Period
Geordie’s Café & Restaurant (geordiebaycafe.com.au) is a licensed hospitality venue located on Rottnest Island, operating across breakfast, lunch and dinner service in a seasonal environment.
We are seeking a Co-Head Chef to join our existing Head Chef in a shared leadership role. The position involves jointly managing kitchen operations across a rotating roster to ensure coverage of days off, leave periods and peak seasonal demand.
This is a full-time, live-on position requiring relocation to Rottnest Island.
Key Responsibilities
- Shared responsibility for overall kitchen operations with the existing Head Chef
- Lead service during rostered shifts, including high-volume periods (100–150 covers)
- Maintain food quality, consistency and presentation standards
- Manage ordering, rostering, training, stock control and kitchen costs
- Supervise and train kitchen staff, including seasonal team members
- Work across all sections of the kitchen, including prep, deliveries and cleaning
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards and kitchen procedures
- Operate within defined labour and cost of goods KPIs
- Maintain continuity of operations across alternating rosters, leave and peak periods
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef role
- Experience in high-volume, à la carte environments
- Relevant trade qualifications
- Food Safety Supervisor certification
- Approved Managers certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work within a shared leadership structure
- Commitment to maintaining a respectful relationship between FOH and BOH
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently when required
- Ability to multitask across all areas of the kitchen in a seasonal environment
- Flexibility to work across a 7-day roster, including weekends and peak periods
- Verifiable references
Role Details
- Full-time salaried position
- Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 per annum + superannuation
- On-site accommodation available ($230/week), suited to single occupant or couple in compact living conditions
- Staff meals provided during rostered shifts
- Hospitality hours required, including evenings, weekends and peak seasonal demand
Location
Rottnest Island is located off the coast of Perth, Western Australia. This role requires relocation and the ability to work in a remote Island environment with seasonal trade fluctuations, additional logistics difficulties and the patience to deal with seasonal changes in the team
