If you’re a musician who enjoys teaching, performing, and working with people, read on! StrumTree is seeking an enthusiastic, community-oriented musician and guitarist to join our team as a part-time guitar tutor. The successful applicant will teach beginner and intermediate group guitar classes to older adults, lead sing-along activity sessions in aged care facilities, and coordinate community performance opportunities for the students. We are particularly interested in applicants who have good people skills, strong musicianship, and a willingness to contribute creatively to our program.
Position: Part-time
Hours: Up to 15 hours per week (daytime and evening), with the possibility of additional hours
Pay: $38 per hour + 12.5% superannuation
Leave: Paid leave included with part-time employment conditions
Location: Canberra, ACT
Training: Teacher training is provided on the job.
Potential for: Additional responsibilities and progression towards full-time employment as StrumTree grows and opens new guitar classes.

About the role
Mandatory requirements: Applicants must hold a current ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration, pass a National Police Check, and hold a current Australian driver's licence.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a strong knowledge of the guitar and a good understanding of music theory.
- Is confident teaching beginner and intermediate guitar to groups.
- Is enthusiastic, patient, encouraging and a good communicator.
- Is punctual, reliable, organised and comfortable working independently.
- Enjoys performing and engaging with audiences.
Highly regarded:
- A confident singer with good aural skills.
- Previous music teaching experience.
- Bachelor of Music or equivalent qualification.
- Group teaching, ensemble leading, performance or community music experience.
- Experience working with older adults or in aged care.
- Specialised knowledge of contemporary, classical and/or jazz guitar.
What you’ll do
- Teach group guitar classes according to the StrumTree curriculum.
- Prepare engaging lessons suitable for beginner and intermediate students.
- Design and deliver special guitar workshops.
- Organise rehearsals, performances and community projects with StrumTree students.
- Lead engaging sing-along and music activity sessions in aged care facilities.
- Communicate with students about classes, performances and workshops.
- Track attendance and provide class recap videos and other learning resources.
- Assist with other administrative and event-related duties.
