Vinery Stud, a leading thoroughbred nursery in the Upper Hunter Valley, is seeking an experienced horse person to join our team as Spelling Farm Assistant.
Working closely with the Spelling Farm Manager, you will assist with the daily operation of the spelling farm, overseeing the care of young thoroughbreds and spelling horses while helping maintain the high standards of horse welfare and presentation for which Vinery Stud is renowned.
- Assist with the daily management of the spelling farm
- Oversee the care and handling of young stock and spelling horses
- Monitor horse health and wellbeing
- Coordinate feeding, treatments and general horse care
- Liaise with veterinarians, farriers and other service providers
- Maintain accurate horse records
- Support the Spelling Farm Manager and oversee operations in their absence
- Extensive experience with thoroughbred horses, particularly young stock
- The ability to work independently and confidently manage daily operations when required
- Strong horsemanship, communication and organisational skills
- A high standard of horse care and attention to detail
- A current driver’s licence

Vinery Stud is looking for enthusiastic horse people to join our Yearling Team for the 2027 Yearling Sale Series.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of Australia’s leading thoroughbred breeding operations, gaining hands-on experience preparing quality bloodstock for the sales ring. The role may also include the opportunity to travel with the Vinery team to major yearling sales across Australia.
- Daily handling, grooming and exercising of yearlings
- Feeding, rugging and general horse care
- Preparing and presenting yearlings to a high standard
- Assisting with parades, inspections and sale preparation
- Potential travel to major yearling sales across Australia
- Maintaining stables, yards and work areas
Previous horse experience is essential, along with confidence handling young horses. We’re looking for reliable, hardworking team players with strong horsemanship skills and a genuine interest in the thoroughbred and bloodstock industry. Previous yearling preparation or sales experience is highly regarded.
