Full Job Description

Working under the direction of the Executive Chef, you will assist with food preparation, cooking, and service while supporting the smooth operation of the kitchen.

You will be responsible for preparing ingredients, cooking menu items to specification, maintaining kitchen hygiene standards, and ensuring guests receive exceptional dining experiences every day.

Food Preparation & Cooking

Prepare ingredients and complete mise-en-place prior to service.
Cook and present menu items in accordance with recipes and hotel standards.
Assist with buffet and à la carte service as required.
Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation standards are maintained at all times.
Communicate stock shortages and special requirements to the supervising Chef.

Kitchen Operations

Support the efficient daily operation of the kitchen.
Minimise food waste through proper portion control and adherence to recipes.
Ensure correct stock rotation and storage procedures are followed.
Assist in maintaining adequate stock levels within your assigned section.
Support senior chefs with service and section operations.

Food Safety & Hygiene

Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic work environment.
Complete food safety documentation accurately and on time.
Adhere to all food handling, sanitation, and hygiene standards.
Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately.

Teamwork & Service Excellence

Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house teams to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Build positive working relationships with colleagues and other hotel departments.
Participate in training and development opportunities.
Assist with additional duties and special projects as required.

Health & Safety

Follow all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Report hazards, incidents, injuries, or illnesses promptly.
Participate in health and safety initiatives and emergency procedures.

Essential Requirements

Previous experience in a Cook, Kitchen Hand, Commis Chef, or similar food preparation role.
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality.
Availability to work a rotating roster including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Desired Qualifications

Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or similar qualification preferred.
Food Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain.
Experience in hotel, resort, restaurant, or hospitality environments is advantageous.
