Roberts Crosbie Mortensen Lawyers is a rapidly expanding specialist Business & Litigation firm with offices in Newcastle and Sydney. We work closely with growing SMEs to solve complex legal problems, manage legal risk and support the key people, contracts, transactions and decisions that help businesses grow and evolve.
We are looking for an experienced Corporate & Commercial Lawyer who wants more than a traditional senior fee-earning role.
You will be supported to build strong client relationships, develop your referral network and grow your profile in Sydney, backed by an established specialist practice and the infrastructure to do it well.
We have invested in the people, systems and support that allow our Solicitors to focus on high value legal work, client relationships and practice growth.
You will be supported by experienced legal assistants, strong systems and processes, and dedicated Operations, Workplace Experience, People & Culture and Sales & Marketing teams.
We also place a strong emphasis on communication and collaboration, with regular team huddles, 1:1s, matter reviews, and daily solicitor and legal assistant catch ups, helping our people stay connected and supported.
You will have that support while still enjoying the autonomy, visibility and influence that comes with being a senior lawyer in a growing specialist firm.
You will report to Director, Amanda Crosbie, an Accredited Specialist in Business Law, who leads our Business & Workplace practices from Newcastle.
You will work closely with Amanda on the carriage of existing corporate and commercial matters, while also taking direct responsibility for your own clients and matters. The role is designed to give you both strong technical support and genuine scope to build your own practice in Sydney.
As the Sydney Business & Company practice grows, we expect this role to grow with it. By succeeding in the role, building trusted client and referral relationships and contributing to the development of the practice, you will position yourself for future leadership of a Sydney Business & Company team.

We work with privately owned SMEs across a broad range of industries. We deliberately focus on this market rather than pursuing government panels or institutional contract work. That means our lawyers are more likely to work directly with owners, directors and decision makers who are personally invested in our advice and outcomes. The work is varied, complex and commercially meaningful.
You will advise clients on matters including:

business and share sales and acquisitions
- corporate and commercial transactions
- business structuring and restructuring
- shareholder and ownership arrangements, including Shareholders Agreements
- drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial contracts
- standard form contracts and trading terms
- business succession and ownership transition
- corporate insolvency and restructuring advice
Experience advising on construction contracts, as well as intellectual property, employment or tax issues that intersect with commercial matters, would be highly regarded.
Specialist expertise matters to us. Our team includes Law Society Accredited Specialists in Business Law and Commercial Litigation, and we provide financial support and study leave for lawyers who want to pursue Specialist Accreditation.
We want strong performance to have meaningful financial upside.
This role is eligible for our generous individual fee earner commission. Once you meet your agreed fee target, commission is paid monthly in addition to salary and there is no cap on what you can earn.
We also recognise contribution beyond individual billing. As our lawyers take on responsibilities such as leadership, graduate mentoring and business development, performance expectations can be adjusted to recognise that contribution.

This role is likely to suit you if you:

have 8+ years PAE in Corporate, Commercial and Business Law
- have strong experience in business and share sales, complex contracts and commercial transactions, structuring, restructuring and corporate insolvency
- can confidently manage complex commercial matters and commercial client relationships with a high degree of autonomy
- are commercially minded and enjoy understanding how your clients' businesses operate
- have an established network of clients, business contacts and professional referrers, ideally within the Sydney market
- have a demonstrated ability to originate work and build enduring relationships that generate repeat business and quality referrals
- want to continue to build your profile and contribute to the growth of a practice
- aspire to leadership and want genuine opportunities to develop those capabilities
- are an Accredited Specialist in Business Law, or interested in becoming one
- value high standards, specialist expertise and commercially useful advice.
