Role based in Newcastle with flexible work options and hybrid arrangements available.
Clerk Grade 5/6, salary relative to experience, and ranges from $102,936 - $113,579 + super.
About the role
Join a dedicated team working to support communities before, during and after disaster events. As an Assistant Coordination Officer, you will collaborate with local councils, Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs) and partner agencies to assist with planning, stakeholder engagement, coordination and administrative activities that enhance disaster resilience and recovery outcomes across New South Wales.
As the Assistant Coordination Officer, you will:
Support the delivery of disaster preparedness and recovery activities by assisting with information sharing, resource coordination and community engagement initiatives.
Assist with agency representation during disaster recovery operations, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with local councils, community organisations, government agencies and other partners to support disaster management outcomes.
Contribute to disaster recovery planning and coordination activities across assigned local government areas.
Provide administrative and business support services, including records management, financial administration, reporting, committee coordination and the preparation of correspondence and meeting documentation.
Work collaboratively with team members to share information, support continuous improvement and contribute to disaster preparedness and recovery activities across the region.
About You
You are a proactive and community focused professional with strong organisational, communication and stakeholder engagement skills. You thrive in dynamic environments, can manage competing priorities effectively, and are passionate about supporting communities before, during and after disaster events. Your ability to build trusted relationships, coordinate activities and work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders will be key to your success in this role.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Experience in disaster management, emergency management, community engagement, community development or a related field.
An understanding of emergency management arrangements and disaster recovery processes within New South Wales,
Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including government agencies, local councils and community organisations.
Demonstrated organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Experience working collaboratively with regional, rural or diverse communities to support positive outcomes.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, correspondence and meeting documentation.
A flexible and proactive approach, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational environments.
An ability and willingness to travel within NSW supporting operational roles following disasters.
Current unrestricted NSW drivers’ licence
Essential requirements:
Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
