City of Liverpool Meals on Wheels Service has been providing nutritious, high-quality meals and supporting people to remain independent in their own homes for more than 60 years.
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Assistant Cook to join our friendly kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen and wants to use their skills to make a genuine difference in the community.
Working alongside our Head Chef, you will assist in producing over 2,500 meals each week for older people, people with disability and community members across South Western Sydney.
About the Role
As our Assistant Cook, you will help ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of our commercial production kitchen. You will prepare nutritious meals, soups, salads, desserts and texture-modified meals while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality.
You will also support the Head Chef with kitchen operations and be confident stepping into a leadership role when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and cooking of nutritious meals to established recipes and quality standards.
- Prepare soups, desserts and texture-modified meals to meet individual dietary requirements.
- Portion, package and label meals ready for distribution to clients and other MOW Services
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and workplace cleanliness.
- Assist with stock control, stocktakes and ordering of kitchen supplies.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support and guide kitchen staff and volunteers in daily kitchen activities.
- Ensure all food safety documentation and procedures are completed accurately.
- Assist in managing kitchen operations during the Head Chef's absence.
About You
You are passionate about preparing quality food and enjoy working as part of a supportive team. You have excellent organisational skills, take pride in your work and understand the importance of producing meals that improve the lives of vulnerable members of our community.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen or large-scale food production environment.
- Sound knowledge of food safety and safe food handling practices.
- Ability to work efficiently and meet daily production deadlines.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A positive attitude with a reliable and proactive approach to work.
- Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely.
Desirable
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
- Experience preparing texture-modified meals.
- Experience working in aged care, healthcare or community food services.
- Experience supervising staff or volunteers.
