Housekeeper – Duties and Responsibilities (Motel Industry, Australia)Primary Responsibilities
- Clean and service guest rooms, bathrooms, and common areas to motel standards.
- Make beds and replace used linen with clean linen.
- Replace towels, toiletries, tea, coffee, milk, and other guest amenities.
- Vacuum carpets, mop floors, dust furniture, and clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
- Clean and sanitise bathrooms, including toilets, showers, bathtubs, sinks, and fixtures.
- Empty rubbish bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Report any maintenance issues, damages, or safety hazards to management immediately.
- Check rooms for lost property and follow the motel's lost property procedures.
- Ensure rooms are ready for arriving guests within required timeframes.
- Deep clean rooms as scheduled.
Public Area Cleaning
- Clean reception areas, hallways, stairways, and guest lounges.
- Maintain cleanliness of public toilets.
- Clean laundry facilities and staff areas.
- Keep outdoor walkways and entrances tidy.
- Assist with pool area cleaning (where applicable).
Laundry Duties
- Collect dirty linen and towels.
- Wash, dry, fold, and iron linen where required.
- Organise linen storage rooms.
- Monitor linen stock and report shortages.
Guest Service
- Be polite and professional when interacting with guests.
- Respond to reasonable guest requests promptly.
- Maintain guest privacy and confidentiality.
- Notify management of guest complaints or unusual incidents.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
- Use cleaning chemicals safely and according to instructions.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow infection control and hygiene procedures.
- Report workplace accidents or injuries immediately.
- Follow fire and emergency procedures.
Stock Control
- Restock housekeeping trolleys.
- Monitor cleaning supplies and amenities.
- Report low stock levels to management.
- Store chemicals and equipment safely.
Quality Standards
- Ensure rooms meet motel quality standards before release.
- Follow housekeeping checklists.
- Meet daily room cleaning targets.
- Maintain high attention to detail.
Team Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with reception, maintenance, and management.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
- Assist other housekeeping staff during busy periods.
- Perform other reasonable duties as directed by management.

Typical Working Hours
- Weekdays, weekends, and public holidays as rostered.
- Morning, afternoon, or split shifts depending on motel occupancy.
