About this Position:
We have an exciting opportunity for two Leading Hands to join our Roads and Infrastructure team. The Leading Hand is responsible for independently leading a road patching and drainage team while also providing crucial support to the Field Supervisor when required. Vital to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment across the Roads and Infrastructure directorate, the Leading Hand is critical to building and maintaining the infrastructure that connects communities.

What we trust you to deliver:
- Support the Field Supervisor by assisting with administration, daily planning, scheduling, safety inspections, and compliance activities, while completing assigned tasks efficiently and maintaining strong team collaboration.
- Independently supervise worksites, lead small teams and contractors, manage materials, equipment and tools, perform measurements and calculations, operate GPS machine control, and apply environmental controls to ensure safe, timely, and high‑quality project outcomes.
- Identify, protect, and work safely around underground and overhead services; conduct prestart and roadworthy inspections for heavy vehicles and plant; follow WHS and National Heavy Vehicle Law requirements; and effectively address and escalate operational issues.
- Guide and develop less experienced staff, undertake traffic control duties, communicate professionally with the community, and contribute to effective resource use and smooth site operations.
What you will need to be successful:
- Cert III Civil Construction and/or relevant experience
- General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current Class LR Licence
- Demonstrated experience in leading and supervising teams in road maintenance and construction activities.
- Demonstrated ability to operate heavy plant equipment.
Full position description:
Employment conditions: Attractive wages and conditions, including a 76-hour 9-day fortnight.
Salary: Starts at $74,187 per annum, plus superannuation. However, the salary is subject to an award increase effective from the first full pay period after 1 July 2026.
