A Process Plant Operator at a Western Australian gold mine is responsible for operating and monitoring equipment used to extract gold from ore safely and efficiently.
Job description
Typical duties include:
Operate and monitor crushing, grinding, milling, CIL/CIP, elution, and tailings circuits.
Start up, shut down, and inspect plant equipment.
Monitor control room systems (SCADA/DCS) and adjust operating parameters.
Collect ore and slurry samples for testing.
Perform routine inspections and identify equipment faults.
Carry out basic maintenance and housekeeping.
Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Record production data and complete shift reports.
Work rotating day and night shifts, often on FIFO rosters such as 8:6, 2:1, or 7:7.
Qualifications
Most employers prefer:
High school completion.
Experience in a gold processing plant (entry-level roles may provide training).
Certificate II or III in Metalliferous Mining Operations (Processing) is advantageous.
Current driver's licence.
Safety tickets such as Working at Heights, Confined Space, and Gas Testing are often required.
