Mobile Massage Therapist – Community Aged Care
Position Summary:
The mobile massage therapist provides professional, client-centred massage therapy services to older adults in residential homes, retirement villages and those living independently in the community. The role focuses on reducing pain, improving mobility, enhancing circulation, promoting relaxation, and supporting overall wellbeing to assist clients in maintaining their independence and quality of life. Services are delivered in clients' homes and are tailored to individual needs while working collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, care partners, and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide safe, evidence-informed massage therapy treatments within the therapist's scope of practice.
Conduct comprehensive assessments before each treatment, including a review of medical history.

Develop individualised treatment plans to address pain, muscle tension, stiffness, and reduced mobility.

Deliver therapeutic massage techniques appropriate for elderly clients, including:
o Relaxation Massage
o Remedial Massage
o Myofascial Release
o Trigger Point Therapy
o Gentle Soft Tissue Mobilisation

qualified)
Monitor clients during treatment for any adverse reactions or changes in health status.
Educate clients and carers regarding posture, positioning, stretching, hydration, self-
management strategies, and maintaining mobility.
Maintain accurate clinical notes and documentation following organisational policies
and professional standards.
Identify risks, including falls, skin integrity issues, pressure injuries, and signs of medical
deterioration, escalating concerns to the supervising clinician where appropriate.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support client goals.
Maintain client confidentiality and privacy in accordance with Australian Privacy Principles.
Maintain infection prevention and control standards and equipment hygiene.
Ensure all treatment equipment is cleaned, maintained, and transported safely.
Travel to clients' homes across the designated service area.
Essential Qualifications:
Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT52021) or Cert IV in therapeutic massage or equivalent nationally
recognised qualification.
Current membership with a recognised professional association (e.g., Massage &
Myotherapy Australia or ATMS).
Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.
Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certification.
Current National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Screening Check (where
applicable).
Current Working with Children check (where applicable).
Current Police Check.
Current Australian Driver's Licence.
A reliable motor vehicle suitable for community visits.
smartphone or tablet for electronic clinical documentation.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience working with elderly clients or within aged care services.
Experience supporting clients receiving Support at Home (SAH), Home Care Packages (HCP), or NDIS.
Knowledge of dementia care and communication strategies.
Understanding of chronic pain management.
Experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Strong understanding of common age-related musculoskeletal conditions.
Knowledge of contraindications to massage therapy in older adults.
Excellent manual therapy skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently in community settings.
High standard of documentation and time management.
Ability to recognise clinical red flags and refer appropriately.
Strong understanding of infection prevention and manual handling principles.
Compassionate, respectful, and person-centred approach to care.
Experience:
Minimum 1–2 years of clinical massage therapy experience (preferred).
Experience treating clients with conditions such as
o Osteoarthritis
o Chronic pain
o Neck and back pain
o Shoulder dysfunction
o Reduced mobility
o Parkinson's disease
o Stroke
o Multiple sclerosis
o General age-related muscle stiffness
Physical Requirements:
The successful applicant must be able to:
Transport and set up a portable massage table and treatment equipment.
Safely perform manual therapy throughout the working day.
Travel regularly throughout the community.
Work safely in clients' homes while following manual handling guidelines.
Compliance Requirements:
The successful applicant must maintain the following:
Current first aid and CPR certification.
Professional association membership.
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Police Check.
NDIS Worker Screening Check (where required).
Ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
