The Schools Workforce Group (SWG) supports Victorian government schools by strengthening workforce capability and leading strategies to attract, recruit and retain a high-quality workforce. The group plays a key role in supporting the recruitment of thousands of teachers into the government school system each year.
SWG brings together expertise across four key areas:
- Developing workforce planning, supply and demand strategies and initiatives
- Supporting the attraction, recruitment and retention of teachers in Victorian government schools
- Delivering high-quality HR and recruitment services
- Providing workforce policy, industrial and employee relations advice
About the role
The People and Workplace Relations (Schools) Division is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the design and delivery of key HR initiatives that support schools across the Department.
This role sits within the People and Initiatives team and plays a key role in building technical capability across the Department's largest workforce, the teaching service, while also contributing to broader divisional and group priorities that strengthen workforce capability and support a culture of continuous improvement.
This is an opportunity to lead complex work in a fast-paced environment.
You will oversee a number of projects from design through to delivery, ensuring they are well planned, aligned to priorities and delivered effectively. The role requires strong judgement, the ability to manage competing demands, and confidence working with senior stakeholders.
You will also provide clear, practical advice to support decision-making, translating HR concepts into simple, actionable insights.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, People and Initiatives, you will:
- Lead the design and delivery of key HR initiatives
- Oversee multiple projects, ensuring they are aligned, well-managed and deliver outcomes
- Put in place fit-for-purpose governance, including managing risks and dependencies
- Provide clear, concise advice and updates to senior leaders
- Build and maintain strong relationships across the Department, schools and external stakeholders
- Lead project teams and support effective collaboration
- Identify opportunities to improve how we design and deliver initiatives
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience leading projects or programs in a complex environment
- Can think ahead, solve problems and deal with changing priorities
- Communicates clearly and can work well with senior stakeholders
- Is organised and can manage multiple pieces of work at once
- Builds strong relationships to get things done
Experience in HR or the public sector is desirable
