The Role
The position of Senior Fisheries Investigator is part of a team of Fisheries Investigators and/or Fisheries Officers investigating serious fisheries crime. In this role you will assist in the development of plans and programs at the MFCU and where appropriate, involving a variety of stakeholders, government and community groups and clients.
Main accountabilities:
- Leading complex, sensitive investigations into serious and organised offending, and where necessary, prepare and present evidence to inform relevant enforcement actions.
- Preparing and presenting complex briefs of evidence resultant from breaches of legislation and act as informant in bringing proceedings against individuals or corporations who have allegedly committed relevant offences.
- Conducting investigative activities with minimal supervision in accordance with relevant standards, policies and procedures.
The Team
The position of Senior Investigator forms a part of the Community Engagement and Major Crime branch within the Victorian Fisheries Authority.
The VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Leads by example and sets the standards for high performance
- Demonstrated understanding of initial action and contemporary evidence gathering procedures
- Demonstrated ability to identify and manage law enforcement operational risk
- Demonstrated ability to cooperate and work well with others in pursuit of team goals
- A Diploma in Government (Investigations) or qualify within 12 months, or an equivalent qualification that is assessed as meeting the same competency standards
