We are seeking a passionate and experienced Lead Drug and Alcohol Worker (DAFA) to join our newly funded Tokoko Integrated Recovery Pathways Program.
Working within Youthspace, this role focuses on strengthening recovery pathways for young adults aged 18 to 25 years across the Wide Bay region through community education, stakeholder engagement and capacity-building initiatives.
This is an exciting opportunity to create lasting impact by increasing awareness of alcohol and other drug issues, strengthening referral pathways and building the capability of local services, community organisations and support networks to better respond to the needs of young adults.
About the Role
As the Lead Drug and Alcohol Worker (DAFA), you will lead initiatives that strengthen awareness, early identification and referral pathways for young adults affected by alcohol and other drug challenges.
A key focus of this role is delivering Drug and Alcohol First Aid (DAFA) initiatives and working collaboratively with community organisations, education providers, support services and stakeholders to build local capability and strengthen recovery pathways.
Rather than providing ongoing clinical support, this role will focus on creating sustainable change by increasing community knowledge, strengthening partnerships and improving access to appropriate supports for young adults and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery and promotion of Drug and Alcohol First Aid (DAFA) initiatives across the Wide Bay region.
- Deliver education, awareness and engagement activities focused on alcohol and other drug issues affecting young adults.
- Build the capability of community organisations, education providers and stakeholders to identify and respond to alcohol and other drug concerns.
- Strengthen referral pathways between community services, treatment providers and support networks.
- Support the development of sustainable pathways for young adults aged 18 to 25 years accessing alcohol and other drug supports.
- Facilitate workshops, presentations and community capacity-building activities.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with local stakeholders and service providers.
- Promote recovery-oriented, strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches.
- Contribute to community engagement, service integration and program development activities.
- Maintain accurate records, activity reports and stakeholder information.
This role is based in Bundaberg and involves regular travel throughout Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and the wider Wide Bay region.
What We're Looking For
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Qualifications in Community Services, Human Services, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Mental Health, Health Promotion, Youth Work or a related discipline.
- Experience working within the Alcohol and Other Drug, Mental Health, Youth or community services sector.
- Experience delivering education, workshops, training or community engagement activities.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with community organisations, stakeholders and service providers.
- Strong understanding of alcohol and other drug treatment, recovery and harm minimisation principles.
- Knowledge of youth engagement and the unique needs of young adults aged 18 to 25 years.
- Strong facilitation, presentation and communication skills.
- Understanding of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practice.
- Strong organisational and relationship-management skills.
- Current Australian Driver Licence.
Experience in community development, workforce capability building, prevention programs, youth engagement or health promotion activities will be highly regarded.
