Join Centacare FNQ as a volunteer supporting our Settlement teams to individuals and families from refugee and migrant backgrounds with their settlement journey in Australia.
As a volunteer, you’ll work alongside experienced staff to provide practical, strengths-based support that helps build skills, confidence, and independence. This includes assisting with local orientation, transport to key appointments, and helping individuals access services and community activities.
This role is suited to someone who is culturally aware, respectful of boundaries, and keen to contribute to a welcoming and inclusive community.
Support may include:
- Accompanying clients to appointments and essential services
- Local orientation (e.g. navigating public transport, locating schools, shops, or support services)
- Assisting individuals to participate in community groups or programs
- Supporting community engagement events and projects
- Helping individuals build everyday skills and confidence to navigate life in Australia
You may be working across:
- HSP (Humanitarian Settlement Program): Supporting refugees, humanitarian entrants, and people from migrant backgrounds in their first 6–18 months in Australia, including those with complex needs, under the direction of trained caseworkers.
- Community Development: Assisting in community-led projects that promote inclusion, wellbeing, and social participation.
