Sydney Petlands is seeking a Casual Animal Attendant to join our growing team. This is a hands-on and rewarding role, ideal for someone with strong handling skills, a genuine love of animals, and a passion for providing excellent care to both pets and their owners.
About the Role
- Job Type: Casual
- Pay Rate: $20.00 – $52.38 per hour (depending on shift and experience)
- Shifts: 4-hour or 8-hour shifts
- Roster: 1-5 days per week, depending on availability and business needs
This position is being recruited ahead of our upcoming busy holiday period. Applicants must be available to work between 25th September - 12th October 2026, including weekends and public holidays where required.
There will also be opportunities for additional casual shifts during low period and the upcoming Christmas and New Year period, with increased hours available during peak times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care, husbandry and handling of cats and dogs
- Ensure animals are safe, comfortable and well cared for at all times
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and presentation throughout the facility
- Monitor and report changes in animal behaviour, wellbeing or health
- Safely handle dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments
- Provide friendly and professional customer service to clients
- Work collaboratively as part of a small, passionate team
- Confidently work independently when required
- Follow workplace procedures and animal welfare standards
- Assist with general duties to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the facility
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in animal care (preferred)
- Proven experience handling dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments
- Strong understanding of dog behaviour and body language
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in a busy environment
- A high level of physical fitness — this is an active, hands-on role requiring you to be on your feet for extended periods
- Clear, friendly and professional communication skills
- Basic computer literacy
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
- Flexibility to work across a 7-day roster, including weekends and peak holiday periods
- Availability from 25 September to 12 October 2026
- Availability during the Christmas and New Year holiday period is highly desirable
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence
- Must be authorised to work in Australia
