Do you love working with art and creating inspiring exhibition spaces? We're looking for a Casual Preparator to join the team at Hazelhurst Arts Centre.
Hazelhurst is one of southern Sydney's leading visual arts centres, presenting a diverse exhibition program that showcases both established and emerging artists. This is a fantastic opportunity to work behind the scenes, helping bring exhibitions to life while handling and installing artworks to professional museum and gallery standards.
You'll help prepare our gallery spaces and install exhibitions from start to finish. No two exhibitions are the same, so you'll enjoy a variety of hands-on work, including:
- Safely handling, packing, installing and storing artworks.
- Preparing gallery spaces, including painting, patching and basic exhibition construction.
- Installing lighting, audio-visual equipment and exhibition displays.
- Working closely with artists, curators and the wider team to deliver high-quality exhibitions.
- Maintaining workshop spaces, equipment and artwork storage, while assisting with gallery events as needed.
You'll be someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work, has an eye for detail and takes pride in presenting exhibitions to a high standard.
We're looking for someone with:
- Qualifications in exhibition installation or equivalent experience.
- Experience installing exhibitions in galleries, museums or similar creative spaces.
- Knowledge of professional artwork handling and conservation practices.
- Experience using hand and power tools, with strong practical skills.
- Great communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
- A current Class C Driver Licence.
It would be great if you have experience with gallery lighting, audio-visual equipment, carpentry, electrical work or design software, but these aren't essential.
