About KW Services
KW Services is a Western Australian company specialising in 10-year major inspections, refurbishment, maintenance and repair of Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs), cranes and other machinery and equipment.
Operating from our modern 2,500m² workshop in Forrestdale, just off Tonkin Highway, we provide both workshop and field-based mechanical services to customers throughout Western Australia.
With new contracts secured and our workload continuing to grow, we are seeking an experienced General Fitter to join our team.
The Role
This is a hands-on mechanical fitting position, predominantly based in our Forrestdale workshop.
The role involves fitting and assembling mechanical components and subassemblies; dismantling, inspecting, measuring, diagnosing, repairing and overhauling machinery; maintaining and repairing mechanical and hydraulic systems; and reassembling, adjusting and testing equipment following repair or overhaul.
A significant part of the role supports our 10-year major inspection and refurbishment work on EWPs and related equipment.
Field-based fitting, fault diagnosis and repair work may also be required at customer sites, including occasional regional and FIFO/DIDO assignments across Western Australia.
The position reports to the Senior Service Technician.
Key Responsibilities
· Dismantling machinery, mechanical assemblies and subassemblies to inspect components and identify wear, damage and defects.
· Fitting fabricated and replacement metal parts and assembling mechanical components and subassemblies.
· Measuring components for dimensions, alignment, clearances, tolerances and fit using precision measuring instruments.
· Removing, inspecting and replacing components including pins, bushes, bearings, rollers, wear pads, seals, shafts, fittings and fasteners.
· Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, equipment manuals, specifications, hydraulic schematics and service information.
· Using workshop machinery and fitting equipment to prepare, modify and finish components, including drilling, boring, grinding and cutting where required.
· Inspecting, fitting and replacing hydraulic hoses, pipework, fittings and associated fluid-power components.
· Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical and hydraulic faults.
· Undertaking mechanical fitting work associated with 10-year major inspections of EWPs, including strip-down, detailed inspection, measurement, mechanical rectification, component replacement, reassembly, adjustment and testing.
· Reassembling machinery following repair or overhaul and conducting operational checks to verify correct fit, alignment, movement and hydraulic operation.
· Undertaking field-based mechanical fitting, fault diagnosis and repair work where required.
· Accurately documenting work performed, faults identified, measurements taken, components repaired or replaced and testing undertaken.
· Working safely and cooperatively with technicians, fitters, apprentices and support personnel.
About You
· A relevant trade qualification in mechanical engineering – fitting, or equivalent relevant experience.
· Demonstrated experience in mechanical fitting, component assembly, machinery maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair and overhaul.
· Practical experience fitting components such as bearings, bushes, shafts, pins, couplings and seals.
· The ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, specifications and hydraulic schematics.
· Experience using precision measuring instruments and working with required fits, clearances and tolerances.
· Competence using fitting hand tools, power tools and workshop cutting, drilling, grinding and machining equipment.
· Sound knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems.
· Experience with EWPs, cranes, access equipment, industrial machinery or comparable equipment is highly regarded.
· A current Australian driver's licence appropriate to the duties of the role.
· A willingness to undertake occasional regional or FIFO/DIDO work.
· A reliable, professional and team-focused attitude.
EWP and Hydraulic Experience
Candidates with previous experience working on Elevated Work Platforms, access equipment, cranes or hydraulic machinery are particularly encouraged to apply.
Experience undertaking major inspections, refurbishment, mechanical overhaul or component replacement on this type of equipment will be highly regarded.
FIFO & DIDO Opportunities
The role is primarily workshop-based, although occasional field, regional and FIFO/DIDO work may be required across Western Australia.
· Overnight work attracts a $120 living-away-from-home allowance.
· FIFO/DIDO work attracts an additional $15 per hour.
