About the role
An exciting opportunity has come up for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join our specialist Compulsory Third Party (CTP) team in Perth on a permanent full time basis.
We're growing and we're looking for someone to grow with us. Our CTP practice has been steadily building momentum and there's plenty of interesting work on the horizon.
Working closely with the CTP Partner, you'll play a key role in a close knit, high performing team acting for major insurers on the defence of motor vehicle injury. Think of this as a genuine right hand role, someone who can step up, lead and help shape where the team goes next.
We do things a little differently here. Rather than running files end to end on your own, you'll have great support around you, so you can spend more time on the interesting, higher value work and less on the day to day admin. Supported by our senior and junior paralegals, you'll focus on the technical side, drafting considered advices on liability and quantum, proactive claims strategy, analysis of medical and expert evidence and driving files forward with commercial and strategic focus.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic, commercially focused advice to major insurer clients on complex CTP matters
- Drafting high quality written advices on liability, causation, quantum and settlement strategy
- Proactive management of a portfolio of high-value and technically complex files
- Attending pre-trial conferences, interlocutory hearings and appearances in the District and Supreme Courts of Western Australia
- Supervising, mentoring and developing associates and paralegals within the CTP team
Contributing to the strategic direction, client relationships, and business development of the practice
-
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A minimum of 5 years' post admission experience, gained within a reputable defendant insurance or personal injury practice. A background in CTP is preferred, however candidates with strong experience in workers' compensation, general liability, or transferable plaintiff side experience will also be considered
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage a portfolio of complex, high value files, exercising sound judgement and knowing when to escalate matters appropriately
- Excellent legal drafting and analytical skills, with a proven ability to produce clear, concise and commercially considered written advices
- A sound working knowledge of civil practice and procedure, particularly within the District and Supreme Courts of Western Australia
- Strong client relationship skills, with a mature, consultative and commercially aware approach to stakeholder engagement
- A genuine commitment to mentoring, supervising and developing junior lawyers and paralegals within the team
The ability to prioritise effectively in a high volume, deadline driven environment, with a proactive and solutions focused approach
