Position Objectives
The Team Leader Reticulation:
- Operations: Ensures efficient and reliable functioning of the water reticulation systems to deliver safe drinking
water, emphasising pro-active maintenance, hygienic practices and rapid response to emergencies, while staying
within budgetary guidelines. Ensures efficient and reliable functioning of the wastewater reticulation systems to
maintain service and reliability to customers, focusing on proactive maintenance and monitoring of sewer pump
stations and reticulation assets to achieve customer service standards.
- Team Leadership & Development: Supervises the reticulation team towards achieving daily operational
targets and upholding safety standards, enhanced by continuous training and adherence to a responsive
on-call roster.
- Stakeholder Satisfaction: Builds and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders and customers,
ensuring transparent communication and timely resolution of feedback and concerns, thereby fostering
trust and collaboration.
Key Responsibility Areas
- KPIs: Monitor, track, and ensure achievement of set KPIs.
- Network Monitoring & Maintenance: Oversee and ensure consistent monitoring, maintenance, and optimisation
of water and wastewater reticulation systems. Address potential risks and implement preventive measures.
- Emergency Response: Lead the coordination for timely responses to reticulation disruptions or emergencies,
ensuring minimised impact and quick recovery, in accordance with hygienic principles and environmental practices.
- Project Management: Implement water and wastewater reticulation projects from initiation to completion,
ensuring adherence to timelines and budgetary guidelines.
- Team Management: Supervise the reticulation team's daily tasks, ensuring efficient operations. Oversee and
participate in a 7-day rotating on-call roster.
- Data & Reporting: Analyse key metrics from the reticulation system and produce regular performance reports.
- Safety & Training: Uphold and enforce strict safety standards. Ensure team members are well-trained and in
alignment with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Stakeholder & Customer Liaison: Foster a positive relationship with both internal and external stakeholders,
ensuring that customers' feedback and concerns are addressed promptly.
- Resource Management: Efficiently manage resources including equipment, tools, and materials required for
reticulation operations, ensuring minimal wastage and optimal usage.
- Asset & Infrastructure Management: Responsible for the operation and fault response to the authorities Water
and Wastewater reticulation assets including sewer pumpstations.
Organisational Relationships
This role reports to the Manager Reticulation East and liaises with all internal stakeholders, peers in water corporations or
local government, government agencies and members of the public.
Accountability and Extent of Authority
- Accountable for operational Integrity, safety compliance, budget adherence, team performance and stakeholder
relations.
- Decisions on daily operations, allocate resources for maintenance, projects, and emergencies within the budget and
financial delegation. Task delegation within the team, adjusting the on-call roster, directing training initiatives, and
making quick decisions during emergencies. Communicate directly with stakeholders and customers on operational
matters.
- Freedom to act is limited by policies, objectives and budgets with a regular reporting mechanism to ensure
achievement of goals and objectives.
