About the role
Lead Aged Care 1 (AC1), a 20-bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) ward at The Royal Melbourne Hospital’s Royal Park Campus. You’ll provide visible, accessible clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team caring for older people with chronic and complex health conditions, including cognitive impairment.
As Nurse Unit Manager, you’ll work alongside patients and staff to promote safe, high-quality, person-centred care that supports recovery, independence and successful transitions home or to residential aged care.
You’ll lead and develop the nursing team, manage clinical risk and drive quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and experience. The role also has accountability for the designated cost centre, including workforce and financial resources, performance targets and organisational priorities.
Key Accountabilities
Lead, coach and develop the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality care.
Manage daily ward operations, including staffing, rostering and workload allocation.
Support patient flow and progression of care through effective bed management.
Drive quality improvement, patient safety and risk management initiatives.
Lead workforce performance, development, recruitment and staff engagement.
Manage the ward budget, resources and cost centre in line with organisational priorities.
Build strong partnerships with medical, allied health and key stakeholders.
Lead change and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, outcomes and patient experience.
About You
You are an experienced Registered Nurse and leader who brings strong clinical expertise, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to aged care. You’ll be confident leading multidisciplinary teams, managing complexity and creating a positive environment where staff can thrive. You will also bring:
Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
5+ years’ experience leading multidisciplinary teams
Strong clinical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience leading staff development, education and performance
A strategic, innovative and adaptable approach to change and complex challenges
Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality, safety and person-centred care
Sound financial and resource management skills
Experience in acute and/or sub-acute nursing
