Industrial Sewing Machinist / Sailmaker
Bravo Sails is South Australia's leading sail loft, located at the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron in Outer Harbor. We are a locally owned and operated business specialising in the design and manufacture of custom yacht sails, marine canvas products, and upholstery solutions for cruising and racing vessels.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Industrial Sewing Machinist to join our friendly and highly skilled team.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll work on a variety of projects, from custom boat covers and cushions to the assembly and finishing of high-performance yacht sails.
About the Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Measuring, marking, cutting and preparing materials to specification
- Operating industrial sewing machines to manufacture and repair marine canvas products and yacht sails
- Installing zips, binding, webbing, straps and reinforcement panels
- Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy and workmanship
- Performing routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting
- Recording job details, material usage and production activities
- Working collaboratively with the production team to meet customer deadlines
- Assisting with on-site installations and fit-outs at local marinas and yacht clubs
- Following workplace health and safety procedures at all times
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Minimum 2 years' experience in industrial sewing, canvas fabrication, upholstery, sailmaking or a related trade
- Experience working with heavy-duty fabrics and materials
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to follow technical instructions
- Reliable work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Physical capability to handle large fabric panels and completed products
- A current driver's licence (desirable)
Marine industry experience is highly regarded but not essential. Training will be provided to the right candidate.
