As a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Apprentice Technician, you'll join a team responsible for maintaining and repairing the equipment that keeps airport ground operations moving safely and efficiently.
Ground Support Equipment includes the wide range of vehicles and machinery used around aircraft, including pushback tugs, cargo loaders, tow tractors, passenger stairs, ground power units and other specialised airport equipment. With approximately 8,000 assets across Australia, you'll gain exposure to a diverse fleet of equipment and technologies while learning your trade in a unique aviation environment.
This apprenticeship provides a pathway to a nationally recognised qualification while developing practical mechanical skills in a real operational setting. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will obtain a:

Certificate III in Heavy Vehicle / Mobile Plant Mechanical
About the Role
Working alongside qualified technicians, the apprentice will support both scheduled preventative maintenance and reactive repairs to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable and operational.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working with tools, solving mechanical problems and learning a trade through practical experience.
Key responsibilities include:

Assisting with scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance

Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults under supervision

Responding to equipment breakdowns and supporting repairs

Maintaining accurate service records and workshop documentation

Following workplace safety and compliance procedures

Contributing to a safe and organised workshop environment
The ideal candidate will have:

Genuine interest in a mechanical trade career with a passion for working on vehicles, machinery or mechanical projects

Be curious about how equipment works and enjoy solving problems

Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop new skills

Have a positive attitude and strong work ethic

Work well within a team environment

Strong literacy and numeracy skills

Australian Citizenship or hold Australian Permanent Residency Status
